HCNW flyer
HCNW flyer aimed at
Sweet Adelines
Another successful year of Harmony College Northwest is under our belts, and a successful one it was. We had over 225 students; more than last year! Seven educators took advantage of the opportunity to get OSPI-approved clock hours. Max Q, Fast Track and Mojo rocked the house with a fantastic show on Saturday night. The weather even cooperated by being "not too hot and not too cold!"
If you missed out on everything, we've uploaded many of the handouts from the weekend. Click here to see theses materials.
July 22-24, 2011 are the dates for the next HCNW. You'll want to mark that down now so you won't miss the opportunity to see and learn from our special guests: Vocal Spectrum!

Vocal Spectrum is the 2006 Barbershop Harmony Society's Championship Quartet. Originally formed as a one-time educational quartet to sing for a local high school, these four have never stopped singing since! They've traveled to Germany, Holland, Sweden, Russia, England, Japan, New Zealand and throughout the United States performing on shows and at conventions, as well as teaching high school students about barbershop harmony. All four sing with the Ambassadors of Harmony (2004 International Chorus Champions). The quartet is the first to win all three possible BHS medals (Collegiate Quartet (2004), Men’s Quartet (2006), and Chorus Medal (2004).
In addition to Vocal Spectrum, we'll be adding the 2010 Evergreen District Quartet Champions, as well as a Sweet Adeline quartet. The chords will be screamin' all weekend long!!
Check this site often, as it will be updated with new information as faculty is set and courses are scheduled. In the meantime, if you've never been to HCNW, feel free to peruse this website with last year's information. It will give you a good idea of what's in store for you next year!
INDIVIDUALS!
Students
will find a wide selection of classes specifically chosen to meet
their needs.
Our faculty are experts in their areas and they are excited to be
part of the 2010 team. After you register, you will receive
information about how to access the music and learning tracks for
our weekend song, "You're Just in Love," which was arranged by Tom
Gentry for 8 parts. You'll have a kick
singing it during the weekend.
CHORUSES!
Bring your whole chorus, and experience four incredible coaching
sessions, plus you’ll all still have time to take some of
the other terrific courses we offer. We suggest the "divide and
conquer" method for those times when you don't have coaching: have your chorus
members all take different classes, then compare notes and return to
your regular rehearsal schedule with lots of tips and ideas. This is a coaching
and class experience that will positively excite your chorus.
Maximum: four small/medium choruses.
QUARTETS!
We
have an exciting array of coaches ready to move your quartet to a
higher level of artistry and performance quality. We will have
quartet coaching available furing all sessions on Saturday...and
even Sunday
morning if you want to pack in one last session. If you want to step
out for a session or two to sit in on one of the terrific classes we
have on tap, that's not a problem.
A maximum of 20 quartets can be accommodated,
so DON'T DELAY!
DIRECTORS!
For you we have set a delectable buffet of
courses to choose from, and you get to
pick which courses in the “Directors Track” are right for you. If you want to hop over and take a
course in the General Sessions, that’s okay too.
MUSICAL LEADERS!
Many opportunities abound for musical leaders. Take courses on how
to be a section leader; how to get the most from your Music Team;
how to be a coach. Fine-tune your musical ear with some of the vocal
production classes, and of course, widen your network of other
chapter leaders to ask questions and tap for solutions.
SHOWMANSHIP &
PRESENTATION LEADERS!
HCNW has numerous instructors lined up who will help you add
expression to your singing and enhance the
visual part of your package. By popular request,
“Owning the Stage”, presented by Donya Metzger, will be repeated
this year to help you find and tell the story in your song.
