Another fun feature of Harmony College Northwest is a special, 8-part song arranged just for HCNW by Tom Gentry!
"I Hear Music / You're Just In Love" is a fun, easy song that both men and women will enjoy singing. Even better, we have learning tracks for you, too, that will be available once you register for the weekend. "Section rehearsals" of the song will be held on Friday afternoon.
In addition, the sheet music will be available for several other songs--polecats and SAI standards--so you can grab three of your newest best friends and sing away!
It's "tag heaven" at HCNW! It's not the least bit unusual to hear groups of men and women singing tags every evening, between classes and during meals. Don't be shy about it; ask them to teach one to you, too!
Quartets will entertain you with a song from their repertoire at the drop of a hat...all you have to do is ask!
And when all else fails, see if anyone around knows a polecat song or an SAI regional song. There's got to be SOMETHING you all know!
Tuition
to HCNW comes with several performances included. The "really big
shew" is on Friday evening, and feature our headline quartet, as
well the the current Evergreen District Champions, as well as a
Sweet Adeline regional quartet.
Saturday has other performance opportunities, and both evenings follow up with a HCNW afterglow! Music, music, and more music!!
Below are the groups who performed for us in 2010. Next year, look for Vocal Spectrum to headline the weekend!

Kicking off the weekend is our terrific Friday night show, featuring guest faculty members Max Q, the 2007 Barbershop Harmony Society's Championship Quartet! Also joining them will be Mojo, the 2010 Eighth Place SAI Quartet, and FastTrack, the 2009 Evergreen District Quartet Champions. This year the show will be held on the UPS campus in the Schneebeck Auditorium. Best of all: your registration to Harmony College comes with a ticket to the show! Additional tickets for guests will go on sale closer to the event.
Our Saturday Night Show is really TWO shows! The action starts at 9:00 pm in the Schneebeck Concert Hall on the UPS campus with a Mixed Quartet Contest, followed by a Parade of Quartets featuring short performances from some of the HCNW "faculty quartets," plus a song from any workshop quartets who wish to delight us!
Mixed
Quartet Contest Details
Sign-up to sing in the Mixed Quartet Contest when you get your workshop material on Friday.
All quartets MUST be mixed gender, and can be either 3 to 1 or 2 to 2.
At least one member of the quartet must be registered at HCNW, either as student, faculty and/or staff.
Sign-up will be limited to the first 15 quartets. (Sign-ups will close at 4:30 pm on Saturday, if not previously max-ed out.)
Quartets may form and prepare in advance of the weekend, or may form and prepare during the weekend. You must choose a name by which you will be identified!
Each mixed quartet will sing one song in the contest Saturday evening on July 17, which begins at 9:00 pm in the Schneebeck Concert Hall on campus.
Any song may be sung; "barbershoppy" barbershop arrangements are preferred but not required! Please do not sing longer than three minutes.
Ballots will be distributed to all audience members (who are not contestants in the contest) for voting on placement. The first and second place quartets will be determined by written ballot of said audience following the final contestant. Criteria for voting is...whomever the audience prefers!
First and second place quartets will be announced towards the end of the evening, after the faculty quartets have sung (to give adequate time to count the ballots without using up valuable show time).
Winning quartets will receive certificates of commendation for each member, suitable for framing!
But wait! There's more! Following the Mixed Quartet Contest, we'll have a Parade of Quartets. Fourth Avenue and Overtime, two of our "faculty" quartets will sing a couple of numbers, then any quartet is invited to sing one song! At HCNW for coaching? Here's your chance. In a quartet but not registered at HCNW? Ya get one song! Pickup quartet? Ditto!
If your quartet would like to sing on the Parade, simply let Bill Mauder or Sue Middleton (they'll be introduced at a General Session) know sometime during the weekend, and they will get you on the list.
Keep reading! There's even MORE more! After this show, head on over to the Trimble lounge for a more informal "afterglow"! There'll be a whole lot of tagging going on, as well as a chance to socialize, gang sing, and wind down. There was even a soccer game one year!!

The same weekend that HCNW is being held, young men and women under 25 are also enjoying a weekend of singing at Harmony Explosion, held at nearby Pacific Lutheran University. The camp puts on a final performance on Saturday evening at 6:30 pm, and you are welcome to attend. Tickets for HX are not included with your registration price, but you can order them in advance. For more information about Harmony Explosion, visit their website.
